Abstract

This study aims to describe or describe efforts to grow students' interest in reading through the DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) program in the school literacy movement at SD Negeri Mega Eltra, Cirebon City, the subject of this study is grade V students, teachers, and also the principal of SD Negeri Mega Eltra. The type ofproximity in this service is practical action research (PAR) which is a type of research withthe involvement of small-scale research projects, focusing on specific problems, and carried out by each teacher. As a result, the DEAR Program is implemented in schools as a whole, both teachers, principals, employees. It is intended that students feel excited because they see everyone supporting them by doing the same thing, which is reading. The form of literacy activities carried out at SD Negeri mega Eltra Cirebon City is an independent reading of non-lesson books for 15 minutes, then writing them down on the literacy card. This is done regularly every day before class. The application of the compulsory reading hour program at SDN Mega Eltra is classified based on the lower grades, namely grades 1-3 and the upper grades, namely grades 4-6. Then proceed with giving the task of making a review of the book read so that the child must read the contents of the book. The DEAR program is implemented with the aim of ensuring that each child spends a few minutes in each day to independently read the readings they are interested in. Thus, students are expected to have a sense of excitement or love of reading so as to create a reading culture in students, both in the school and home.
