Strengthening for Children Living with Hiv-Aids (Clwha) Through Organizing and Advocacy Activities in Kebumen Indonesia

Abstract

This article is the result of community service based on transformative research for strengthening for Children Living with HIV-AIDS (CLWHA) through organizing and advocacy activities. Research location is in Kebumen District, Indonesia. Research is qualitative by using in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and discussions such as focus group discussion (FGD). The informants in this research are those who live with CLWHA who are CLWHA's fathers, mothers, or grandparents, and CLWHA who can be invited to dialogue. In addition, informants are also in the form of a number of related stakeholders. Researchers are more as facilitators. The research was conducted in September-December 2018. The aim of the research was to make participatory efforts to build organizations as a space for CLWHA and their families, and make efforts to encourage them to move to advocate for basic rights for CLWHA. The results of the research are (1) the formation of an organization for the struggle and protection of CLWHA  led  by Family Living With CLWHA (FLWC), namely Persadha Kebumen – the Brotherhood for CLWHA, (2) the implementation of a number of advocacy activities for CLWHA  conducted by Persadha Kebumen, in the form of policy advocacy, advocating for strengthening  fiqh law for CLWHA,  and networking advocacy, (3) assistance to CLWHA  in Kebumen successfully involving  academics in Kebumen as a form of community service so that this assistance is continuous (not hit and run). Suggestion, a sustainable program needs to be carried out by IAINU Kebumen as assistance as part of community service efforts with support and assistance from relevant stakeholders, both at the central and regional levels.
